Same-sex couples in Florida could begin marrying next month, after a federal appeals court ruled Wednesday that a stay in the state’s gay-marriage ban case will be lifted at the end of the day Jan. 5.

11th Circuit Court of Appeals refuses to extend ban on same-sex marriages in Florida

In a two-page ruling, a three-judge panel of the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta turned down a request by Florida’s secretaries of health and management services and the clerk of the court in the Panhandle’s Washington County to extend the stay. A federal judge based in Tallahassee ruled in August that the state’s gay-marriage ban is unconstitutional, but stayed his decision until Jan. 5 to give the state time to appeal.

What is female genital mutilation?

As the “Voice of Lesbian Senior” … There is no comparison between this “procedure” & circumcision! None …

Just Bliss

1415872800214_wps_75_Pokot_girls_stand_outside

It’s one of the most political areas of women’s health. Worldwide it’s estimated that well over 120 million women have been subjected to it. Supporters of the practice say it’s an important part of cultural and religious life, and some compare it to the practice of male circumcision that is more widely accepted in the Western world, but opponents say that not only is it potentially life-threatening – it’s also an extreme form of oppression of women.

In some countries where it’s more widely practiced it’s officially illegal – those who persist in the practice in Senegal will now face a prison term of between one and five years, for example. But it’s still carried out quietly, within the family and out of sight of officials.

Female circumcision is mainly carried out in western and southern Asia, the Middle East and large areas of Africa. It’s also known to take…

Oil prices dropped by 7 percent to $69 per barrel on Thursday, the lowest level since May 2010. The dive came after OPEC announced that it was leaving production levels unchanged, dashing expectations that the group of leading oil exporters would slash production to boost prices. Saudi Arabia pushed to keep production levels steady despite pressure from Russia, Nigeria, and Venezuela, which need higher prices to bolster their economies. [CNN]

At the end of the day …. “Take me to church”, by Hozier!!

As the “Voice of the Lesbian Senior” …. The video I’m sharing portrays the persecution that the LGBT community is subject to in spite of the “advances” seen in these “modern times”.

It Is What It Is

~~November 11, 2014~~

Many advances have been made in the equality movement yet there are still so many places on this earth where loving is conditioned to the “normal” standard: man and woman. Many, who have different lifestyles, are insulted, abused, persecuted, discriminated against, degraded, assaulted and even killed because “they are different”. This video reminds me of the big part that organized religion plays in this situation. All done in the name of what is right or wrong.

Who is anyone to judge?

Andrew Hozier-Byrne (born 17 March 1990), known simply as Hozier, is an Irish musician from Bray, County Wicklow.

Take Me to Church” is a song by Irish recording artist Hozier, released as a single in 2013 and taken from the EP Take Me to Church. It is also the first track of his self-titled debut album.

A Mother’s Heartbreaking Tale Of Losing Her Gay Son

Evan Hurst June 05, 2013

“The Religious Right hates it when we point out that their teachings are directly related to the problems of bullying, depression, self-loathing and suicide. We don’t point this out to be mean, or as a smear. We point it out because it’s true, but we also understand that many run-of-the-mill Fundamentalists truly believe they’re doing the right thing when it comes to society, the LGBT community and their own children.

This is the disconnect in messaging, because, aside from Religious Right leaders who actually do know better, yet are motivated by obscene anti-gay animus and thus continue to lie, many religious people are hurting their own families and they don’t know it. Sometimes the results are tragic.

Stand up against bullying!!

~~October 16, 2014~~

Millions go purple on Spirit Day in a stand against bullying and to show their support for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth.

Observed annually since 2010, individuals, schools, organizations, corporations, and public figures wear purple, which symbolizes ‘spirit’ on the rainbow flag.

In early October 2010, Canadian teenager Brittany McMillan promulgated the observance of a new commemoration called Spirit Day, the first observance of which took place on October 20, 2010; it now however takes place on October 16.

On this day people wear the color purple to show support for LGBT youth who are victims of bullying. Promoted by GLAAD, many Hollywood celebrities wore purple on this day to show their support of this cause, and many websites added a prominent purple shade to their design.

The name Spirit Day comes from the purple stripe…
